Quick Answer

Allah has listed in the Quran (Surah Al-Mu'minun, verses 1-9) seven qualities of the believers who inherit Al-Firdous: (1) humility in prayer, (2) turning away from useless speech, (3) giving zakat, (4) guarding private parts except with spouses, (5) faithfulness to trusts and pledges, (6) protecting their prayers. In addition to these qualities, loving Allah and His Messenger is a path to Firdous — the Prophet (SAW) told a Companion who had little good deeds but a genuine love for Allah: "You are with those whom you love." One should also constantly make dua to Allah asking specifically for Al-Firdous, since it is the highest and middle level of Jannah.

The Question: How Can I Go to Jannah? — 21:40

Brother Muhammad from Senegal, masha'Allah — his email was literally a few words, and it was so beautiful I could not possibly turn it down. He says: how can I go to Jannah? That was his question. Subhanallah — when I read this question, my heart jumped for joy. It showed me the sincerity; it showed me the iman. That is the most important question. Every other question becomes trivial compared to this simple one: how can I get to Firdous?

The Seven Qualities in Surah Al-Mu'minun — 22:17

Dear Brother Muhammad from Senegal — subhanallah, Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has listed for us how we can get to Firdous. It is literally listed for us in the Quran. Open up the Quran and read Surah Al-Mu'minun from the first verses:

Verily, those who have iman in Allah — they have achieved success. Allah then tells us who these people are:

  • Those who are humble and thoughtful in their prayers
  • Those who turn away from uselessness — they turn away from nonsense, from idle talk; they do not waste their time
  • Those who are constantly giving charity
  • Those who are guarding their private parts except for their spouses; they do not go beyond this
  • Those who are faithful to their trusts and their pledges — if they make a promise, or if somebody trusts them, they are faithful to that
  • Those who protect their prayers — they make sure that they pray very well
  • Then Allah says: These are the people who shall inherit — inherit what? Al-Firdous.

Loving Allah and His Messenger — 23:35

Along with this, we can add a few more things. Among them is to love the Prophet (SAW), because our Prophet (SAW) said to a man who came to him and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I don't have too many good deeds — I am not able to compete with the rest of your companions — but I love Allah and His Messenger." So the Prophet (SAW) said: "You are with those whom you love."

So if you have a genuine love for Allah and His Messenger, this is one of the ways to get to Firdous.

    Making Dua for Al-Firdous — 24:04

And of the ways as well is to make dua to Allah — to make dua to be granted Al-Firdous. Our Prophet (SAW) said: When you ask Allah azzawajal, then ask Him for Firdous, because it is the highest of Jannah and the middle part of Jannah.

So raise your hands up to Allah and say: I ask You for the highest level — make dua to Allah sincerely from your heart. Make dua in the last third of the night. Make dua in sajdah. Make dua constantly throughout your life.

And follow the beginning verses of Surah Al-Mu'minun — you are working your way to get to that highest place. May Allah make me and you and all of us from the people of Firdous. Beautiful question, dear Muhammad from Senegal.
