Why are haram relationships harmful beyond just being a sin?

Haram relationships psychologically scar the heart — each relationship that ends leaves permanent emotional damage, and the heart gradually loses its capacity to love fully. The person whose first real love is their spouse enters marriage with innocence and depth that is a tremendous asset. Multiple pre-marital relationships erode that capacity and increase the risk of marital breakdown.
