Death & Afterlife

Is it permissible to remove a family member from life support or a ventilator?

Medical treatment including ventilators is mubah (permissible) but not wajib (obligatory). Removing life support from someone in a vegetative state with no chance of recovery is not considered murder.

What are the Islamic etiquettes and rulings when a loved one passes away?

Islam requires acceptance of Allah's qadar and sabr. Crying and grief are fully permitted — the Prophet (ﷺ) himself wept. Wailing (raising voice with phrases like "I can't live without you") is forbidden. The taziyah (offering condolences, visiting the bereaved) is Sunnah, as is gifting food to the grieving family. Good deeds can be performed on behalf of the deceased.
